we're still here!

hi everyone and happy new year!
our appologies for not keeping the blog updated; we've never been very good at this blog stuff. being the visual people we are, instagram has become our primary means of communication. hello? communicating by photograph... perfection!
do you follow us on instagram? it's so much fun and really is the best way to virtually *hang out* with us.
we have two accounts: momhandmade and teresina47; between the two you get lots of photo's of what we are currently making (fabric stuff and food), glimpses around our towns (encinitas and san diego), family and some silly stuff.
here is a look back on some of our 2012 images.

we hope 2013 is off to great start for you. we've been busy making 100 baby bibs for a store in japan! talk about exciting!! we will share a few photo's of the bibs soon, maybe even tomorrow (don't pass out if that actualy happens).

look what i stumbled upon

elkhorn wisconsin... camp wandawega: the vacation wonderland! holy cow this place looks Awesome with a capital A!

it's been around since the 1920's and has quite a colorful past: connections to the mob, bootleggers, and the Vatican -what a mix!

in 2003 David Hernandez and his wife Teresa Surratt became the latest owners of the lake resort.

i don't know if the decor of the resort was already in place when David and Teresa purchased the camp or if they are responsible for the look, but man o' man it is spot on. picture after picture sucked me in and i wanted to be right there. i kept expecting to see Haley Mills in a photo wearing that cute camp uniform from The Parent Trap.

north carolina bbq. east coast trip, part 2

here are some more images from my visit to raleigh.

bbq tray from cooper's in downtown raleigh. it's been there since 1939.

and yes, those are hush-puppies and pork rinds in the center of the table. i asked what a first-timer should try and this is what they brought us. it was gooood. north carolina bbq is vinegar based, not sweet and no heavy sauce. i liked it. the hushpuppies were great; i could have eaten a whole basket.

a photo essay of my east coast visit. i'm going to break this up into a few posts because i'm still here enjoying my time. i've gotta live it!

this is my first time in virginia. the tree's, oh the tree's!
and today we went to the beach; my first view of the atlantic... and Neptune!
virginia is for lovers. i'll be sharing more soon!

my first time in new orleans; here are a few pictures.
our server at café du monde. love the bow tie of course, and the paper hat.

me and dave all bundled up and having fun. it was cooold the first few days, 35 and rainy; but on our last two days it was in the high 60's and sunny.

new orleans is all about food and drinking. we did our best...
this was my eggs flourentine from elizabeth's in the bywater. holy cow, this one is going on the best-ever list. potatoes, poached eggs, creamed spinach, fried oysters, and hollandaise sauce.

the amazing buodin balls, rice and pork sausage, fried. need i say more? we had these a few times.

erin rose bar, just off bourbon street, but miles away in feel and attitude. highly recommended. ask for natasha and tell her bethany and dave sent you.

this trip was for work, but dave was able to come out and we spent two extra days there. it was a lot of fun and i would definately go back. however, i don't think i'd ever go for mardi gras. the place has enough going on as it is, and i'm just not that crazy.

oh, one more meal we had that was really good, but i didn't get any pictures -too busy enjoying myself- was at the green goddess. check it out. good and funky -the food and the place. the night we went there was an hour and half wait for a table, so we gave them our name and then walked over to erin rose (few block away) for a drink. an hour later we made our way back to the restaurant and had a great meal. our table was in a hallway. like i said, good and funky.

i keep remembering things... we got to see a great band at the dragon's den, called the happy talk band. check 'em out.

 

dec 31, 2008 - jan 1, 2009

i spent new years eve with a very dear friend in los angeles. we had dinner and rang in the new year at café stella. it was fabulous, we sat at the bar and enjoyed a bottle of champagne, i had my first frisée aux lardon (to die for, i can't stop thinking about it) and one of the best hamburgers ever, plus pot de creme. we were there for 4 hours, talking with each other and our neighbors and the cute bartender joshua.
it was too dark to get any good pictures of the evening with my point and shoot camera; wish i could have, café stella is really cute. i did however wake up early the next morning -with the first light of the new year hitting the couch where i slept, so i took some photo's of my friends home. she has created such a special place, i'm glad i can share a bit with you.
amongst my friends, it is my favorite home. not only because of her decor, but mainly because of her hospitality. when you visit you are taken care of -you are home.

i didn't take a picture of the couch because it was covered in sheets and pillows -i wish i could have, it's gorgeous and i bet it's nearly 7 feet long. can you spy the sleeping kitty?

i love the office area with it's neatly stacked books, boxes and fun finds. love the chairs too! (i don't know why this part is underlined -i can't get it to go away and it really bugs me.)

day 1 outfits:
we got such a great response from everyone at the show. the tie was definitely a hit.

our peasant blouse was well received as were the mini nu-nu dolls.

day 2 outfits:

the show was really great. lot's of people in attendance and all of my friends showed up (thanks guys)! mom and i were stoked at the response we received; the bay area really appreciated our workmanship, pattern mixing and classic styles. everything from the dolls to the t-shirts, skirts, peasant blouses and ties (especially the ties) did really well. we love the thought that there are a bunch of little munchkins (a few women and one french bulldog too) walking around wearing m.o.m clothing!

we had great neighbors, one of which was cathy of california -she was really nice. on the back side of us was  i *heart* guts! we first learned of them at felt club in los angeles. we lucked out and my sisters booth (jessica(fied) jewelry) was just to the left of us on the back side, so we were able to help her out because she worked her booth alone.

as i mentioned before heading to the show, our schedule was so tight we didn't have much time to get around town; but we did make it to o'chame saturday night for dinner and my mom and sister enjoyed it as much as i had hoped they would. our hotel was in japantown so we did get to the kinokuniya bookstore and i bought one book for myself, then we stayed in the mall for a sushi dinner (when i was 15, my mother, step-father and I took a trip to japan, the smells inside the mall and the restaurant were exactly like japan).

a really huge thank you to everyone that stopped by our booth to say hi, make a purchase or comment on our clothing or the picture of my grandmother. it was really special for us to see your response to our work. thank you.

san francisco or bust!

my mother, sister and i will be heading out early friday morning. we've decided to drive because of all the stuff we have to bring for the show. we're throwing everything in my aunts minivan and rollin' tough! we got a room at the hotel tomo which i'm excited about. i looked into it after learning about it and seeing a picture at something's hiding in here. it was way too cool to pass up, and we got a california residence discount -score! we aren't able to stay in town long which is a bummer; so one of my "must do's" is dinner at o'chame in berkeley. the udon noodle with pork is to-die-for, the scallion pancake and seared tuna with wasabi mustard are great starters and to finish the meal, a scoop of balsamic vinegar ice cream (i know it sounds funky, but when reduced, balamic vinegar is quite sweet) and that's saying something because i'm a complete, chocolate-at-the-end-of-every-meal gal. if we can squeeze it in, we would of course love to stop by rare device and perhaps meet the ladies we read so much about, lisa congdon and rena tom.
hopefully some of my friends from oakland will make the trek over the bridge to say hi and if there are readers who live in the bay area and are planning on coming to the show, please say hello; we would love to meet you in person!

st. louis

i was in st. louis this past week working. i didn't get a chance to explore beyond the downtown area we stayed in; which they call the loft district because all the really great old buildings are being converted into work/live lofts. developers were given tax incentives if they left the building structure intact and only renovated the inside.
the view across the street from b+t pizza. check out the open windows in the tall building on the right...they pivot from their center. had dinner one night at this cute pizza place. it had great decor, we sat ouside.

ate lunch at the dubliner before heading out to the airport on our last day.

it only rained once during the week -thursday around 1am. it was spectacular with lightning and thunder and some really hard rain. part of the park surrounding the arch was flooded, but nothing really extreme.
